CHILDREN

"My daughter really enjoyed herself.  She can't wait to come back.  She must have been really comfortable with you and your daughter: to be so free."  Laura W., Mother of Camper in La Mariposa Spring Break 2010

"My daughter, honestly, was a little apprehensive about the Spanish language spring break camp.  But at the end of the first day, with no prompting, she said, 'Camp was wonderful today!' and later that evening she was able to recite all of the numbers from 1 to 10 and all of the colors, except orange, in addition to being able to introduce herself.  In fact, after the last day of spring break camp, she informed me that she wanted only to attend Spanish language camp this summer--none other!" Nancy D., Mother of Camper in Spring Break Camp 2010

"When I asked my son if he'd had fun after Spanish language spring break camp he said, 'Huh?' and I knew he wasn't listening.  So I asked again and he said, 'Oh, Yeah!' And then, after years of my speaking to him in Spanish with no response, he began to
use words in Spanish with excitement. " Mary Lynn C., Mother of Camper in Spring Break Camp 2010.

ADULTS

"Spanish class with Janine was simply a joy.  Her passion and commitment to teaching shone through in each of her lessons.  I was continually impressed with both the depth and breadth of her knowledge of Spanish-speaking cultures.  With her wealth of experience, she would constantly add valuable additional material that was specifically tailored to her students' interests.  This extra learning beyond just the lesson made for a rich and exciting Spanish class every time."  -- Steve F., Student Jan. '08 to Sept. '09 and Post Grad at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics

"Janine is an exceptionally generous and flexible teacher. While she creates a structured context for learning the basics, she is always looking for interesting ways to expose her students to Spanish in real usage: she spices up her classes with extras like
YouTube videos of Spanish-language pop songs and traditional festival music, listening to news coverage of current events on BBC Mundo, and opportunities to have conversations with Spanish-speakers from different countries and with different accents.Janine also studies her students' learning styles and adapts her teaching to best work with them. In our classes she always took care to approach topics in several different ways - through reading, practice conversations, talking about the context, doing simple exercises, games, and so on - to make sure that we each had the best possible opportunity to learn. Although ours was a group class, I felt as though I had very personal instruction. Thanks to Janine's classes from February 2008 to September 2009 I can now understand Spanish and be understood in my turn, write well and read comfortably. Had we not both moved to other cities, I would certainly continue taking classes with her. I envy her future students!" --Jen D., Student and Staff at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics

"I really enjoyed our Spanish classes and weekly mesa española.  The class had a great atmosphere, and Janine was an innovative teacher, using websites, podcasts and Spanish songs along with textbooks to make learning fun and relevant to contemporary Spanish-speaking culture.  Her personal experience means she is very knowledgeable about Latin American culture, which added an extra dimension to our language learning.  Janine was always friendly, patient, and encouraging, and I miss our classes.  I especially miss mesa española, where we would get together for informal, conversational Spanish, and read Spanish books together.  It was a great way to reinforce the material learned in classes, and was one of my favourite times of the week." --Sarah C. Student Jan. '08 to Sept. '09 and Post Grad at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics
