Pre-school, Elementary and Middle School Services:
¡QUé VIVAl EL ESPAñOL was founded to reach out to children in Santa Fe, NM who can greatly benefit from learning the Spanish language and about Latino culture. Janine Johnston-Somma and Consuelo Byrd bring a unique perspective to language learning by guiding children to knowledge through discovery and encouraging them to apply it on their own. We have developed group and individual educational models to facilitate the learning process. As instructors, we believe that children should learn a second language in the same manner that they learned the first; naturally, by converting their existing knowledge (from their everyday environment) into new words.
OUR APPROACH: ¡QUé VIVA! EL ESPAñOL (QVE) works with elementary and middle schools to offer Spanish language programs. Our creative program emphasizes listening and speaking skills and cultural exploration through a unique combination of
OUR PROGRAMS INCLUDE*:
CLASS LENGTH: The length of classes is flexible but can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the children’s developmental level and the school’s needs.

Around the world there are more bilingual than monolingual children. Second language learning offers numerous benefits for children: facilitating mother language learning as well as mathematical skills, opening children's eyes to other cultures, and better preparing them for the global economy. The community of Santa Fe, New Mexico is a rich home to many dialects of Spanish, and its culture is entwined with both Spanish and Latin American roots and branches. With QVE children will learn to appreciate and participate in the cultural and linguistic richness surrounding them.

- singing,
- dramatic skits,
- games
- arts and crafts
- even cooking when and where appropriate.
OUR PROGRAMS INCLUDE*:
- Lechucitas (baby owls) I & II - Children are introduced to the basics of Spanish. With creative and fun lessons incorporating movement, dramatic skits, crafts, and games, children begin to build their vocabulary.
- Codornices (Quails) I & II - Children with previous knowledge of Spanish expand their foundation with new vocabulary and themes, utilizing all of our fun methods in a developmentally appropriate way.
- Coyotes I & II - Children reinforce and expand previously learned Spanish skills, while engaging in conversations about themselves, their families, their schools and their community.
- Corre Caminos (Road Runners)I & II - Building on their strong base, older children are immersed in the foreign language and its cultures through innovative themes.
- Pumas I & II - Children graduating from elementary school or of middle school age are immersed in themes “only they could love” while gaining language exposure and cultural knowledge that will catapult them into middle and high school.
